SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 9, 2001-- Axis Systems Inc. and Wind River Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND), are collaborating to provide tools and methodologies that will enable system-on-a-chip designers to verify embedded software before a hardware prototype is available. In addition, Axis has joined the Wind River WindLink(TM) Partner Program.

``Embedded software is a critical part of systems on a chip today,'' said Steve Wang, vice president of marketing for Axis Systems. ``Designers need to verify embedded software in the context of the entire system before the hardware prototype is available. Designers need to have confidence in a design, and the only way they can gain that confidence is to thoroughly verify the software running on the hardware.''

The integrated solution, available later this year, will enable customers of both companies to compile and run their software code on Wind River's VxWorks® real-time operating system (RTOS). The software code running on the VxWorks RTOS will communicate with hardware designs running on Axis' ReConfigurable Computing (RCC) products, Xcite and Xtreme. In addition, customers can debug their software code in their native environment using Wind River's Tornado® integrated development environment (IDE).

By taking advantage of Axis' RCC technology, the joint solution will deliver much higher performance and better debugging capabilities for verifying embedded software. The ability to verify embedded software earlier in the design phase, before a hardware prototype is available, results in much faster system bring-up at the end of the design cycle, thus resulting in faster time to market for the product being designed.
